The Kingdom of the Whispering Wind
Check out ths report..This happened in Henderson County NC in the mid 80's..
This is an old story that occurred before I was born. It's a story my uncle told me for many years and I felt I should share it.
It was in the late Fall/early Winter of either 1984 or 1985. My uncle had been hunting and it was getting late, but he had his flashlight and his gun. He was on his way home calling the dogs as he went when he noticed the complete quietness that was usually broken by many of the woods various animals. At the moment all he heard was the noise from his beagles. He came upon a huge, completely open clearing in the woods where there were suddenly sounds coming from all around like whispers and it was if the wind was blowing but the trees remained still.
A similiar thing happened to my dad when he was out one night with friends. They came to the same spot my uncle came across from the above report and started to drive the car through. The car stopped, the lights went dead(no lights worked at all) and then the sounds came. After finally getting the car started they turned around and drove back down the trail. When they reached the end of the trail there was a tree about 12" in diameter laying across the road and they could still hear the strange sounds coming from every direction.
Various hunters have had the same experience and some refer to it as "The Kingdom of the Whispering Wind". Many believe there is an old burial ground on the edge of that field.
Years ago, we had an old cow who would do anything to avoid those woods and that particular open spot in the field.

Old Homeplace looking for New Life
Here's a house sitting at the botton of a grassy meadow waiting to be restored.. There's a road on the property that leads to the top of the ridge which gives you close to a 360 degree view..Also the property holds a barn and a small stream ..It looks like this property was an old homeplace and now it's for sale..Boy, I sure do love this property..

Potato Hill 2
Today, we was coming back from Hendersonville on the backroad of Howard Gap..This road winds right through Potato Hill which is on the outskirts of fletcher..Over the summer this place was as green as a rain forrest.. You can see how green it was Here .. Kristie grew up in this area and she tells me everything is still the same from her childhood.. Atleast this is one area that hasn't fallen into the hands of contractors -atleast not yet..

Remembering the Past of Making Do..
Shortly after we crossed into tennessee, we came across this truck stop/ bar.. This place had to been around long ago and today it's still here..Although we didn't know if it was operational or not, we weren't about to go inside to find out or at least not I..It's fixed up like a business but could very well be residential..Well, anyway, In a time where big corporate businessess are closing their doors all around us, don't forget the small business owners from long ago that did what they had to do in order to make their businesses survive..

A Surprise from my Job..
Today while I was waiting on our residents in the middle of lunch, our adminstator
came in and asked my boss could she have me and her come to the office and talk.. By me being one of the newer employees, i had no idea what this was going to be about..To make a long story short, when we got to the office, our administrator wanted to thanked me for being so nice to the residents and said that she never heard of so many compliments about a new employee..Of course that made me feel good..So after the nice speech, she handed me what turned out to be a card and a fifty dollar check..I work with some very sweet and considerate people and yesss, i was suprised.. Money or no money, it pays to be nice..

Guns and Religion..
Kristie and I were going through tennessee when we saw this sign.. I've always heard of a turkey shoot but never knew what it was.. For those of you who would like to know exactly what it is, here's a little history on the turkey shoot..
A turkey shoot is an opportunity for an individual or a party to very easily take advantage of a situation. It also implies that the "shooter" can't lose.
A "turkey shoot" is also a shooting contest where frozen turkeys are awarded as prizes. The shoot is most commonly held, using shotguns aimed at paper targets about 25-35 yards away. Original turkey shoots, however, dating at least to the time of James Fenimore Cooper, were contests in which live turkeys were tied down in a pen and shot from 25-35 yards. If the turkey died, the shooter received it as a prize. This gave rise to the military term (see below). Today, turkey shoots are still popular in rural America, where citizens are all likely to be familiar with shotguns. The winner is chosen according to which target has a shot closest to its center cross-mark. This removes almost all skill from the contest, and allows every shooter an equal chance.
In the military, a turkey shoot occurs when a group or team catch the enemy off-guard or out-gunned to the point of being unfair..
